Speaking after the draw with the Cranes, the 1996 Olympic gold medalist noted that even though he is new on the job, the draw showed the team is improving.

“We looked at ourselves and worked with our strengths. I have only been with the team for 10 days,” Amuneke said after the game dominated by his side.

“I am really happy with them. They want to be a new breed of Tanzanian players,” Amuneke told reporters after the game.”

The draw leave Tanzania without a win in the Group L race for Cameroon.

In June 2017, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Lesotho in their first game and will take on Cape Verde next month in continuation of the qualifying series.
