Some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South West have called on party members give the party chairmanship slot to the South West.

The call was made by the former National Vice Chairman (SouthWest) of the party, Ishola Filani, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the party for the upcoming guber election in Ekiti state, Dare Bejide and a factional National Vice Chairman (Southwest), Makanjuola Ogundipe.

Filani recalled that the national PDP chairmanship position had been zoned to the Southwest during the May 2016 national convention of the party.

He wondered why some interest groups are working against the agreement to support Southsouth’s candidacy.

Filani was speaking at the inauguration of Bejide’s campaign office in Ado-Ekiti.

The former deputy national chairman, who commissioned the campaign office, argued that PDP national chairmanship had not been occupied by the South West while every other geopolitical zone had occupied it.

Filani said: ”We discovered of late that our brothers in the South South said they want to contest for the national chairmanship. We want to appeal to our brothers that the Southwest will support the Southeast to grab the vice presidency zoned to the South.

”God will forbid a situation in which our (national) chairman, after being elected at the convention will be having an EFCC case hanging on his neck for him not be sent back to jail.”

Speaking, Bejide condemned the adoption of Prof Kolapo Olusola as the sole candidate of the party by Governor Ayo Fayose in the state’s governorship election next year.

Bejide described the governor’s action as an imposition that will not be allowed to stand.
