Nigeria’s coach Gernot Rohr has opted for a 3-5-2 formation for the big friendly match against Argentina, with Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi leading the attack.
In the lineup released this afternoon by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Leon Balogun will play at the heart of the three-man defence, and he will be flanked on the left and right by the duo of Awaziem and Troost-Ekong respectively. The wing-backs are Ola Aina on the left and Shehu Abdullahi on the right.
In the middle of the pack will be the team captain Mikel Obi, who is expected to dictate the game from that position. He will be helped in the midfield by Wilfred Ndidi and John Ogu who scored Nigeria’s goal in the 1-1 draw against Algeria in the last match of the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
The Argentines would be without Lionel Messi who was given a rest.
Nigeria and Argentina will be meeting for the eighth time in a grade 1 friendly match ahead of the 2018 World Cup.
The last time these two teams met in an international game was at the group stages of the 2014 World Cup, with the Argentines triumphing by 3 goals to 2.
