FC Ifeanyiubah

Ten-man Ifeanyiubah edged Nigerian champions Rangers 4-3 on penalties to clinch the 2017 Charity Cup on Wednesday at the Abuja National stadium.

It was a game involving the reigning Federation Cup kings and the league champions, which served as the curtain-raiser to the 2016/17 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season, kicking off this weekend.

Both sides had to settle the cagey contest on penalties after playing goalless at the end of regulation time.

The Anambra Warriors’ left-back, Kojo Baah, was shown a second yellow card towards the end of the first half.

But the Flying Antelopes could not make their numerical advantage count as they dominated without scoring.

Rangers continued from where they left off in the second half, piling pressure on the defence of their opponents but they still couldn’t find a leeway.

The game had to be decided on the lottery of the penalty shootout which the Nnewi-based side eventually won, with midfield maestro Prince Aggreh scoring the decisive kick.
