Concise News understands that Ortom while addressing the State House Correspondence after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammad Buhari on Monday, in Abuja.
The Governor, reacting to the situation on Katsina-Ala road, he revealed that all the stakeholders in the state were willing to cooperate to address insecurity situation but for one notorious criminal “Gana,” who was trained by Boko Haram and had continued to terrorize the state.
According to Ortom, Gana is one of the instrumental to the kidnappings happening between Benue and Taraba states–all forms of criminality – armed robbery, assassinations among others.
“ The community to has given up because as at today, the three local governments of Katsina-Ala, Logo and Buruku are not safe,” he said.
He also disclosed that many activities in those affected communities have been decimated due to the nefarious activities of the criminal.
“No educational, farming, commercial activities are going on, the Igbos that are major traders have vacated.
“With Operation Y Stroke, we are going to move against them and we believe we will be able to surmount them,’’ he said.
Ortom, who disclosed that no fewer than 400 persons from various ethnic nationalities have so far been arrested for violating the grazing law.
Concise News learned that the Governor, who spoke with the State House correspondents after a private meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said the law on open grazing is still effective and was not selective.
He said: “The place is relatively peaceful; the law is being implemented and we have arrested 400 people irrespective of their ethnic background, whether Fulani, Igbos, Yoruba, Tiv, Idoma.
“We have convicted 50 people for contravening various offences and we have seized more than 2,000 cattle.
“But we ensured, no one has molested any cattle, nor killed any cattle but once your cattle is seized for open grazing by the livestock guard, within seven years when your cattle are quarantined, if you don’t come to pay fines and redeem your cattle, we auction them.
“So far, for cattle that we have arrested, people have come to redeem and so we have not had any cause to auction any cattle; the law is still in force in Benue State and we are implementing it,” he said.
The Makurdi Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has arrested one Ikechukwu Sunday Onovo, a suspected transfer fraudster at one of the generation banks in Otukpo, Benue State.
Concise News understands that the commission in a statement disclosed that the suspect is an indigene of Nkanu-West Local Government of Enugu State, but resides in Makurdi.
The statement read: “Onovo’s method includes going to Benue State University Gate to report to the security that he lost his ATM card.
“The unwary security men would then hand over the pack of lost but found ATM cards of students to him to check if his own was among. And he would steal some of the cards.
“With the stolen cards, Onovo would hang around ATM points to offer help to people who have problems operating the machine and in the process, deliberately gives his victim his stolen card and takes his or her own.
“He will later go back to withdraw all his victim’s money.”
The 32 years-old Onovo, who revealed that he has made over N1million through the fraud.
He alleged that there were so many other young men in the crime, who are operating in different parts of the country.
After his arrest, the EFCC recovered two ATM cards, N15,000, ring, necklace and bracelets from him.
Meanwhile, the EFCC said that he will soon be charged to court.
