For the seventh year in a row, King of pop, Michael Jackson, has emerged the highest-earning dead celebrity in Forbes 2019 list.
According to Forbes, the late ‘King of Pop’ took the top spot after his estate made over $60 million in the last 12 months.
The list reveals that Jackson’s music streams increased to 2.1 billion in the US, compared to 1.8 billion the year before.
“The King of Pop’s streaming surged despite recent controversy: 2.1 billion U.S. spins, up from 1.8 billion a year ago.”
“With proceeds flowing from his Mijac Music catalog, a Las Vegas show and a long-term deal with Sony, he retains his postmortem cash crown for the seventh consecutive year,” Forbes said.
Elvis Presley, famous singer and actor, came second on the list with $39 million, while Charles Schulz, prominent cartoonist, secured third position with $38 million pretax income.
Bob Marley rounded out the top five after raking in over $20 million, while Nipsey Hussle, who was shot and killed earlier this year, was in 10th place with over $11 million.
This makes it the seventh time Jackson will emerge the highest-earning dead celebrity in a spin.
He found stardom in his childhood as part of The Jackson 5 before achieving unprecedented success as a solo artist, with his 1982 “Thriller” remaining the top-selling album of all time.
The king of pop died while under propofol, a powerful anesthetic administered by his personal doctor to help him sleep.
The singer had been acquitted four years earlier of allegations of child molestation, which he strenuously denied.
