The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria on Friday lost out 1-2 to Australia in the third match at the 2019 U-17 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Despite the loss, the five-time World Cup winners topped the Group B standings with six points and were already through to the round of 16 before the tie.

Concise News had reported that the coach Manu Garba’s side had beaten Hungary 4-2 in their first fixture at the cadet champions.

On Tuesday, the 2013 and 2015 winners came from behind to claim all three points in a 3-2 win over South Africans Ecuador.

Noah Botic gave the Joeys the lead in the 13th minute of the clash before Olawale pegged them back eight minutes later.

It ended 1-1 in the first half but the Australians struck again via Botic who slammed home a penalty in the 54th minute.

Trevor Morgan’s boys rallied from two goals down to pick a point in their first encounter where they drew 2-2.

In their second tie, they fell 2-1 to Ecuador and they and Nigeria have to wait to know their opponents in the next round.
