Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare believes that the Golden Eaglets will bounce back from their 1-2 defeat to Australia in their last group match at the ongoing 2019 U17 World Cup in Brazil.
Five-time world champions failed to turn things around after going 1-2 down to hand Australia their first win in the competition.
Commenting on the outcome of the match, Dare says though the Nigerian U17 national team lost the match but played their heart that would have won them the game, he added that as the game progresses Nigeria will get better and prevail.
“Golden Eaglets. Even In defeat, our boys played good football. The game gets tougher with each match but our boys will prevail.” Sunday wrote on his official tweeter handle after the match.
Australia scored early through Noah Botic in the 14th minute before Peter Olawale restored parity in the 21st minute.
The equalizing goal boosted the morale of the Nigerians as they dominated the first half and created many scoring chances but failed to find the back of the net.
Noah Botic completed his brace from the spot in the 52nd minute after a controversial penalty was awarded against the Nigerians.
In spite of the loss, Nigeria finished top of the group with 6 points the same points with Ecuador while Australia were 3rd on the group standings.
