Kogi Poll: Why We Can’t Disqualify Yaha Bello Over Double Registration – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has explained that it cannot disqualify Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state, for double registration because it is not an offence under the electoral act.

INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, said this while speaking at a quarterly media meeting with journalists on Wednesday.

Natasha Akpoti, a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), had approached a federal high court in Abuja asking it to disqualify the governor from the November 16 gubernatorial election over alleged double registration as a voter.

Akpoti was a governorship candidate before she was disqualified by the electoral commission over an invalid nomination of her running mate. Read more here.

Kogi Election: Court Sets Date For Judgment In Akpoti’s Suit

The Federal High Court, Abuja, will, on November 7, deliver judgment in the suit filed by the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Natasha Akpoti, challenging her exclusion from the forthcoming governorship election in Kogi state.

Justice Folashade Ogunbiyi-Giwa fixed the date for judgment after taken submissions of counsel on the propriety or otherwise of the suit.

Akpoti, his deputy, Adams Khalid and the SDP had approached the court to challenge their exclusion from the 2019 Kogi governorship poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Read more here.
