Lassa Fever: Five Die In Benue
National Centre for Disease Control says five persons have been confirmed dead in Benue state, north-central Nigeria, following an outbreak of Lassa fever.
21 suspected cases of Lassa fever were received from the state out of which eight cases were confirmed.
Speaking to newsmen on Friday in Makurdi, Programs Officer, Risk Communications Desk, Hanatu Bello, disclosed that “Lassa fever, though preventable, must be treated early.” Read more here.
Benue: Police Nab Teacher For Allegedly Raping JSS1 Student
Benue Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a school teacher, Terseer Maikyo for allegedly raping a JSS 1 student in Ukum Local Government Area of the state.
This was contained in a press statement on Friday signed by the Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Sewuese Anene in Makurdi.
The statement stated that Maikyo was arrested on October 8, and would soon be charged to court. Read more here.
Benue: Miyetti Allah Apologises To Ortom Over Killings By Herdsmen
The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore has apologised to the governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom, for the attacks and killings in the state caused by herdsmen.
The association’s national secretary, Saleh Alhassan, tendered the apology on Saturday at a peace meeting in Makurdi and pledged to ensure peaceful coexistence between farmers and herdsmen in the state.
A statement issued at the end of the meeting said the meeting was initiated by Allen Onyeama, the chairman of Air Peace airline. Read more here.
