The Army Green Berets were on Friday beaten at the 3 Division Nigeria Army playing ground by Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Plateau United 1-0 in a friendly.
Concise News understands that Mustapha Ibrahim punished the Army boys in the 27th minute as the two sides played a delightful game watched by thousands of football fans including heads of security agencies in Plateau.
Commander of the Special Task Force, Maj.-Gen Augustine Agundu, who commended the sides, said: “We play together and we understand ourselves, it reduces misinformation.
“The match is one of non kinetic approaches of cementing relationship.
“It helps to understand that we have much to gain when we are together.”
General Officer Commanding, 3 Division Nigeria Army, Maj.- Gen Nuhu Angbazo, said that apart from fostering civil-military relations, the match was also to train personnel.
Angbazo said that through such games, the Army had produced high calibre sportsmen for the country.
Thanking the management of Plateau United for accepting the request for the friendly, the GOC assured that such friendly engagements would be sustained to enable the army to discover talents to represent Nigeria.
As for the General Manager of Plateau United, Pius Henwan, he thanked the 3 Division for coming up with the initiative, saying the match tested the fitness of his side.
Plateau United are preparing for the 2019/20 NPFL season scheduled to kick off on 3 November, with the 2017 champions beginning their campaign against neigbouring Lobi Stars in Jos.
