Arsenal striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is confident his club have what it takes to finish in the top four in the English Premier League (EPL) this season, Concise News reports.
The Gunners suffered a setback to their Premier League hopes on Monday night when they slumped to a disappointing 1-0 loss to Sheffield United.
That result left them in fifth place on the Premier League log and two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea after nine games of the new campaign.
Arsenal are aiming to try and break back into the top four this season after they finished outside the Champions League place last term under Unai Emery.
Aubameyang has made a fine start to the new campaign and has scored seven goals in nine games.
Speaking after receiving his Premier League player of the month award for September, the Gabonese national team captain insisted that he is confident that Emery’s side have what it takes to finish in the top four.
According to Metro, ‘Auba’ stated: “I feel great. I’m feeling free on the pitch.
“I don’t know if it’s the best form of my career but it’s a good one so I will try to keep the level up.
“I’m sure we will achieve the top four. That’s the goal. That’s our aim.”
Arsenal will return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon as they attempt to get back to winning ways with a home clash against Crystal Palace.
Before then, they tackle Vitória S.C. of Portugal in the UEFA Europa League tomorrow.
The north Londoners have not won the Premier League title since the 2003-04 season.
Arsenal identify Dayot Upamecano as top defensive target ahead of £40m transfer move
In related news, Arsenal are reportedly preparing a £40million move to sign RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano.
Upamecano was firmly on the Gunners’ radar as a possible replacement for Laurent Koscielny in the summer, but Unai Emery eventually turned to David Luiz after missing out on the 20-year-old.
Though Leipzig rejected a sizable offer from Arsenal for Upamecano, they are increasingly resigned to losing the highly-rated Frenchman at the end of the season.
Upamecano’s Leipzig contract has a €100m release clause which reduces by €20m every year.
It was therefore believed that interested clubs would have had to spend €60m (£52m) to land the youngster next summer.
However, Leipzig are now prepared to accept a cut-price fee for the defender to avoid losing him for free when his contract expires in 2021.
According to The Sun, this has put Arsenal on red alert and the north London club are lining up a fresh bid for Upamecano ahead of the January transfer window.
The report claims the France Under-21 international has been identified as Arsenal’s top centre-back target.
