The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Enugu State has nabbed one Uche Nwosu and eight others over suspected internet fraud called “Yahoo Yahoo,” Concise News reports.
Concise News understands that the EFCC arrested the suspected “Yahoo Yahoo boys” on Friday at Mexmemphis Properties and Apartments, Maryland District of the State.
A statement by the EFCC gave the names of the suspected internet fraudsters Precious Ibegbulem, Michael Odishi, Ebuka Kenneth, Akabuke Beluolisa, Chibueze Ezeagwu, Nnamdi Maduekwe, Kingsley Orazulike, Linda Chidera and Uche Nwosu.
“On the strength of the information, the EFCC raided the home of the suspects and arrested them,” the anti-graft agency said.
“Items recovered from them include mobile phones, laptop computers, two Toyota Corolla vehicles with the registration number DM 722 YAB and LSR 468 FW, etc.
“The suspects will be charged to court when the investigation is concluded.”
The EFCC has said it will rehabilitate young people involved in cybercrime called “Yahoo Yahoo” in Nigeria,” Concise News reports.
This online news platform understands that the comment came from the Acting Chairman of the EFCC Ibrahim Magu.
Magu noted this in Lagos on Thursday while delivering a paper at the third All Administrators National Conference of the Chartered Institute of Administration.
He added that the rehabilitation would ensure that these internet fraudsters become useful to society.
This is as he said the EFCC is liaising with other nations in the prosecution of cross-border crimes.
“So if you carry money from Nigeria and escape to Ghana, we will just call the men in Ghana and say, ‘arrange this man and keep him for me,” he said.
“This is what the ‘Yahoo-Yahoo boys’ like to do. But we are planning to rehabilitate them because they can be useful to us in future.”
