Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen has claimed the French Ligue 1 Player of the Month for September 2019, following his sterling form for Lille, Concise News reports.
In August, Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga scooped the award.
Concise News reports that Osimhen, who joined Lille in the summer, saw off competition from Algeria’s Islam Slimani and France’s Nicolas Pallois to win the prize.
The former Sporting Charleroi forward got 45% of the vote with Monaco’s Islam Slimani having (37%) and Nantes’ Nicolas Pallois bagging (18%).
Osimhen, 20, struck twice in September as well as provided two assists as his club jumped to second on the Ligue 1 log.
The U-17 World Cup winner scored against SCO Angers before hitting another goal when Les Dogues took on Strasbourg.
His assists came in matches against Rennes and Strasbourg, and he is now the fourth-highest scorer in the top five European Leagues, trailing Bayern Munich’s Lewandowski (11 goals), Manchester City’s Aguero and Chelsea’s Abraham (both with 8 goals).
Overall, the Nigerian has netted seven goals in nine games in the French domestic league.
Osimhen was part of the Nigerian side that finished third at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
