Kogi: Gov Bello’s Chief Of Staff Onoja Resigns
Chief of Staff to Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Edward Onoja, has resigned his position less than one month to the governorship election in the state.
Onoja resigned to enable him emerge as running mate to the governor who is seeking reelection on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
This was contained in a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Folashade Arike, who named former Director General (Protocol), Abdulkareem Jamiu, as the new Chief of Staff to the governor.
Gabriel Ottah had been appointed to replace Jamiu as new DG Protocol.
Onoja emerged as running mate to Gov. Bello as a result of the rift between the governor and his deputy, Elder Simon Achuba, who is currently facing impeachment proceedings. Read more here.
Kogi Election: Institute Cautions Against Heating Polity
The National Democratic Institute (NDI) on Thursday urged political parties and their candidates contesting the November 16 governorship election in Kogi state to engage electorates on issue-based campaigns to avoid heating the polity.
Bem Aga, Senior Programmes Manager of NDI, who made the call on Thursday at a political parties Peace Forum held in Lokoja, said the call was part of measures to prevent violence before, during and after the election.
Aga said there was need to avert crisis in the campaign and the election proper by checking unguarded utterances and statements coming from the parties as the development could create tension and violence in the forthcoming polls. Read more here.
