However, reacting in a statement on Monday by its Director, Press and Information, Dr. Festus Akande, the Supreme Court stated that it had yet to constitute the panel that would hear the appeal.

2. Again, Police Rescue 300 Chained Persons From Islamic Centre In Daura

The Katsina Police Command has rescued 300 persons chained together and treated inhumanely in an Islamic centre in the Sabon Garin Daura area of the state. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Sanusi Buba, disclosed this to journalists at the center on Monday. Buba said the police discovered and shut down the centre, after some of the boys who had escaped embarked on a protest over allegations of violation of human rights.

3. 2020 Budget: Finance Minister Puts Total Revenue At N8.15trn (See Breakdown)

Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, has put the total revenue of the proposed 2020 budget at 8.15trillion naira. Ahmed made the disclosure on Monday during a presentation aimed at discussing the details of the 2020 budget proposal presented to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari. According to the minister, the total expenditure for the proposed budget stands at 10.33 trillion naira.

4. Nigeria Customs Boss Provides Fresh Update On Border Closure

Head of the Nigeria Customs Service, retired Col. Hameed Ali, on Monday said that all import and export of goods from Nigeria’s land borders remained banned. Concise News reports that Ali, officially known as Comptroller-General of the agency, said that the borders would be opened after an agreement with neighbouring countries on the kind of goods that should enter and exit Africa’s most populous nation. Ali was speaking at a press briefing on joint border patrol codenamed ‘EX-SWIFT RESPONSE.”

5. Minimum Wage: Again, FG, Labour Meet Over Implementation

The Federal Government on Monday met with the organised labour movement on the implementation of the new N30,000 minimum wage. Concise News reports that the meeting started after members of the union arrived at the Ministry of Labour and Employment in Abuja. According to the Labour and Employment Minister Chris Ngige who presided over the meeting, it was an information-sharing gathering. Ngige told the labour leaders that he would be neutral in the negotiation for the new minimum wage.

Fatima, daughter of Mamman Daura, President Muhammadu Buhari’s nephew, has accused the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, attacking her inside the presidential villa in Abuja. Speaking on a video where Aisha Buhari was captured complaining about being denied access to her apartment, Fatima said she did not expect Aisha to attack her. Speaking to the BBC Hausa in an interview monitored by TheCable, Fatima narrated what transpired in the Villa.

7. EFCC Raids Night Club, Arrests 94 Suspected ‘Yahoo Boys’

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have raided an Osogbo-based nightclub notorious for hosting parties for suspected internet fraudsters. The raid, Concise News learned, led to the arrest of 94 suspects and confiscation of 19 exotic cars, laptops, scores of sophisticated mobile phones among other items. Popularly known as ‘Club Secret Underground’, the nightclub is located on the Ibadan-Iwo Expressway of the Osun State capital. It was the most massive bust ever recorded by the agency since it intensified the crackdown on the Internet scammers.

8. Moghalu Quits YPP, Launches Non-partisan Movement

The presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the 2019 presidential election, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu has resigned his membership of the party. Moghalu who announced his resignation from the party via his twitter handle, @MoghaluKingsley on Monday, announced a non-partisan movement and called for reform of the country’s electoral system ahead of the 2023 general election. The former Central Bank of Nigeria deputy governor, turned politician argued that unless the electoral process is fixed, the country’s democracy will remain weak.

9. Nigeria Will Never Be One-Party State, CUPP Tells APC

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has told the All Progressives Congres (APC) that Nigeria will never be a one-party state. Concise News had reported that the APC said the nation is becoming a one-party state, berating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over its “poor” opposition role in deepening the country’s democracy. However, the Coalition in a statement through its spokesperson, Imo Ugochinyere, stated that it was laughable that the APC claimed that opposition parties were dead in Nigerian.

10. Euro 2020: Ukraine Qualify Despite Ronaldo’s 700th Goal

Ukraine beat Portugal 2-1 on Monday to clinch a place in the Euro 2020 finals despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s 700th career goal. Roman Yaremchuk gave the hosts a sixth-minute lead, while Andriy Yarmolenko added a second after 23 minutes. Although Ronaldo scored his landmark goal from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute and Taras Stepanenko was sent off, Ukraine held on to secure first place in Group B.
