President Buhari Meets New Economic Council

President Muhammadu Buhari met members of the newly-constituted Economic Advisory Council (EAC) behind closed-doors on Wednesday in Abuja.

Constituted on Sept. 16, the EAC dislodged the Economic Management Team (EMT), headed by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.

The EAC, chaired by Prof. Doyin Salami, is saddled with such functions as fiscal analysis, economic growth and a range of internal and global economic issues working with the relevant cabinet members and heads of monetary and fiscal agencies.

“The EAC will have monthly technical sessions as well as scheduled quarterly meetings with the President.

“The Chairman may, however, request for unscheduled meetings if the need arises,’’ an earlier statement by presidential aide, Femi Adesina said.

Members of the EAC are Dr. Mohammed Sagagi – Vice-Chairman; Prof. Ode Ojowu – Member; Dr. Shehu Yahaya – Member; Dr. Iyabo Masha – Member.

Others are Prof. Chukwuma Soludo – Member; Bismark Rewane – Member; Dr. Mohammed Adaya Salisu – Secretary (Senior Special Assistant to the President, Development Policy).
