Concise News reports that the NCC said that the move became necessary following the rising criminality in Nigeria.

The Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, said that the policy was in line with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Act 2007 relating to NIN regulations.

Danbatta said the NCC, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, had set in motion mechanisms for compliance.

This news medium recalls that the commission recently deactivated 2.2million improperly registered GSM lines in the country.

Pantami had ordered the NCC to ensure that no improperly registered SIM card was active beyond 11:59pm of Wednesday, September 25.

It was learned that about 9 million lines were initially spotted. But after reconciliation with the networks, 6,830,249 lines were found to have been properly registered.

Pantami reiterated the need for all improperly registered SIM cards to remain blocked until they were properly registered and commended the regulator and the telecom operators for working hard to carry out the directive in record time.
