The Bauchi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has affirmed the election of Governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held on April 9th and 23rd, 2019.
The Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Salihu Shuaibu, in his over six-hour judgement on Monday, struck out the petition filed by former Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, for lack of merit.
Concise News had reported that Abubakar and the All Progressives Congress (APC) had filed a petition to challenge the declaration of Mohammed as the winner of the 2019 governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In their petition filed on the 12th of April 2019, Abubakar and the APC alleged over voting and non-compliance in some polling units in Bogoro Tafawa Balewa and Bauchi local government areas of the state.
The counsel to petitioners prayed that the Tribunal cancels votes of some polling units and declare the first petitioner winner while counsel to respondents prayed that the tribunal dismisses a petition for lacking in merit.
