The Chief Of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. General Buratai Tukur has urged media practitioners in the country to help in tackling fate news and hate speeches.
Buratai also noted that this has become important before fake news and hate speeches drive the West African nation in a serious crisis.
The COAS made the appeal at the weekend in Lagos during the 3rd Annual Conference of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) themed; Economy, Security National Development: The Way Forward.
He was represented by the Nigerian Army Director of Information Management (DCMA), Brigadier General Aminu Goni at the programme.
“When you reduce fake news, you will be able to add value to the security of the land.
“We implore you to protect the image of the security in the minds of the public,” he noted.
Also speaking the Managing Editor and Chief Executive Officer of Eagle online Dotun Oladipo noted that the country’s security challenges have become major discussion points.
“I want us to have it at the back of our minds that the cry of a hungry and poor man will one day not allow the rich and the mighty sleep again if something is not done fast to address it,” he added.
