Former Senator, Shehu Sani, has reacted to the death of popular Ogbomoso tortoise named Alagba which died at the age of 344, Concise News reports.

Alagba, said to be the oldest in Africa died on Thursday, October 3, after a brief illness.

The news of its death was announced by the private secretary to Oba Oyewumi who said  the tortoise which made Ogbomoso a tourism centre would be greatly missed.

He said: “Often times, Kabiyesi shares great moments with Alagba. On a daily basis, Alagba had tourists visiting her from different parts of the world. The palace household, Ogbomoso community and stakeholders in the tourism sector are mourning Alagba’s passage.”

However, Sani in a post on his Twitter handle likened the tortoise’s longevity with resilience amidst struggles.

The former senator further noted that Alagba’s death was a message to Nigeria.
