Nigerian singer Jaywon has condemned the nomination process by the organizing committee of entertainment award ‘The Headies’.
Concise News reports that The Headies released the nominees’ list for its 13th edition on Tuesday, October 1, with Burna Boy racking 10 nominations – the highest in the history of the music gathering.
Jaywon reacted to the nomination process in a tweet that suggested that his singles, ‘Aje’ and ‘soro’ should have been nominated in the best vocal performance (male) category.
The tweet read: “That best vocal performance (male) category for the 13th headed is a bust! Don’t know the exact parameters used, but compared with the folks on the list, Aje by Jaywonjuwonlo should have made the cut for the year under review.”
A tweet by another user read: “I’m not saying this Jaywon is my G but come on… Aje and Saro should both be heavily considered for any best vocal performance and best alternative song list”
Responding, Jaywon said: “They have always been shit to me for, the headies award committee lol, smh.”
The Headies award show is scheduled to hold on 19 October, 2019.
Running for over a decade, the 13th Headies award will feature 23 unique categories in recognition of Africa’s finest artistes.
