Taraba Killings: Army Issues Fresh Directives To Officers

The Nigerian Army has asked its personnel to always be cautious in dealing with police officers in the aftermath of the killing of three policemen by soldiers in Taraba State. The Chief of Army Staff, Brigadier-General Tukur Buratai, made this known in a letter dated August 9 and signed on his behalf by Brigadier-General Felix Omoigui. The policemen and a civilian were shot dead by soldiers at a checkpoint in the state. The policemen had arrested a kidnap suspect and were taking him along with them when the soldiers opened fire. Sagir Musa, Army spokesman, later said the soldiers mistook the officers for kidnappers, and that they were responding to a distress call on a purported kidnap incident within the area but the police dismissed his claim. Buhari To Take Action On Taraba Killing Report – Presidency

The Presidency has said that President Muhammadu Buhari will take action after the panel set up by Chief of Defence Chief, General Gabriel Olonisakin, has submitted its report following their investigation on the killing of policemen by soldiers in Taraba State. This was disclosed in a statement on Monday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu. According to Shehu, Nigerians must be patient with Buhari, adding that the insinuation of indifference on the part of President Muhammadu Buhari is untenable. Read more here.

Taraba: Ex-Lawmaker Makes Salient Demand From Gov Ishaku

Alhaji Imam Imam, a former member of the Taraba House of Assembly, has advised Governor Darius Ishaku to appoint more youths into government to enable them contribute to effective governance, Concise News reports. Imam made the call during an Eid-el Kabir interaction with newsmen in Jalingo on Tuesday. The former lawmaker noted that a great percentage of the state’s population were youths, and regretted that previous governments had paid little attention to them. According to him, such neglect is responsible for the high rate of youths restiveness in the state. Read more here.
