Benue: Police Rescue Businessman Kidnapped In Gboko

Police in Benue say they have rescued a 61-year-old businessman from his abductors in Gboko area of the north-central state. Concise News learned that the victim, John Akombo, is a Nigerian Brewery Distributor. He was kidnapped from his office at gunpoint and forced into a waiting Honda Pilot Jeep. But eyewitnesses said the police were promptly alerted and a team of security joint task force in the area, including the Army, pursued the abductors from JS Tarka Way. It was learned that the abductors were overpowered and the abductee was rescued around Mbaamandev, Mkar- Ameladu road in Gboko. Read more here.

Benue Govt To Begin Disconnection Of Illegal Water Supplies

Benue State Government on Tuesday said it would start disconnection of all illegal water connections in the state, Concise News reports. The Acting General Manager, Benue Water Board, Gideon Shenge, told NAN in Makurdi that the board was now supplying 28,000 cubic meters of water to Makurdi residents daily. According to him, the board will commence disconnection of all illegal water supply channels in Makurdi from September and appealed to all customers to show water bills and receipts of payment during the exercise. He said the exercise was aimed at increasing the revenue generation drive of the state by collecting all unpaid revenues due to the board. Read more here.

Benue: Tsav, Asambe React To Akume’s Appointment As Nigeria’s Minister

Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, former commissioner of police, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Senator George Akume as minister, and declared the former governor as “a good choice”. Concise News reports that Tsav, a consistent critic of Akume, in a dramatic twist, described him as “a humble and true leader of the people of Benue”. “Akume is a very good man. He is a very humble and true Benue leader. He is a true leader and I think he will not disappoint in his new responsibility. He is the only politician in Benue that feeds his supporters anytime they come to his house not minding their status,” Tsav told NAN, on Tuesday in Makurdi. Read more here.
