African champions D’Tigress on Tuesday booked a place in the quarter-finals of the 2019 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket in Dakar, Senegal, after walloping Cameroon 106-39 in their second Group B match.
Nigeria took charge of the game from the tip-off, recording 21-7 lead in the first quarter, winning the second 28-16 to lead 49-23 at half time.
They humbled the Central Africans in the third quarter with a 23-10 win, before completing the routing in the final set, which ended 34-6.
“It means a lot to us because we are trying to defend our title. In 2015, they beat us and we wanted to win this game badly. This is not the first time we are beating a team with over 100 points, we are just here to win and retain our title, that’s why we’re here and we are going to make sure we keep on working,” ex-captain of the team Aisha Mohammed said.
