A coalition of Igbo and pro-Biafra groups have concluded arrangement to organise the first global Igbo national summit on peace, security and development of the Igbo region, southeast Nigeria.
It was learned that four major pan-Igbo organisations, Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF), World Igbo Congress (WIC), South East Christian Association of Nigeria (SE-CAN) and Association of South East Town Unions (ASETU), are powering the summit.
The Igbo Leaders of Thought (ILT), Igbo Women Assembly (IWA), and Peoples Restoration Movement (PRM) are also part of this.
Concise News learned that the planned summit has been agreed to hold in Owerri, Imo state, on August 22, and Houston, United States, from August 31 to September 2.
Making this known, chairman of the organising committee, Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie, said it would be a mega gathering of the Igbo to x-ray the challenges of insecurity and threats to life and property in their region.
Awuzie said, “We wish to underscore the pivotal importance of Igbo in the Diaspora to participate in this historic process. As such, a two-phased summit is being planned- a home-based and Diaspora-based summit- to enable their participation and input on issues and decisions pertaining to their homeland.
“The single agenda theme of the home and Diaspora summits is development, peace and security and survival of Ndigbo and their neighbours.”
