National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Uche Secondus has called for the unconditional release of the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore.
He made the call in an interview with journalists in Yola on Tuesday when he paid condolence visit on Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri over the demise of his father, Alhaji Umaru Badami.
Sowore, who was the presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC) in the last election, was arrested on Saturday by operatives of the Department of State Service.
The AAC Presidential candidate had called for a mass protest tagged: “RevolutionNow”, beginning from the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, on Monday.
Concise News reported that the RevolutionNow movement, however, went ahead with the protest on Monday in Sowore’s absence, clashing with security operatives in the process.
Speaking further, Secondus accused the President Buhari Muhammed-led federal government of denying Nigerians the rights to lawful assembly as in the case of Sowore and many others.
“I’m calling on President Buhari to release Sowore immediately and unconditionally so. It is not done in any political administration”
“What is happening today is like we are in a military era. They should also release all political prisoners,” he said.
