The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Taraba State Chapter, on Monday said it would intervene in the resolution of the ongoing Tiv and Jukun crisis in the state, Concise News reports. CAN was reacting to the recent incident which led to the death of three Benue students and a staff of the Federal University, Wukari, Taraba. Dr Isaiah Jirapye, the newly-elected CAN Chairman in the state told NAN that they have pledged to initiate a dialogue that would lead to the amicable resolution of all forms of crisis in the state. Jirapye said the warring factions must embrace dialogue for a genuine end to the lingering crisis. He said, “I will prioritise a dialogue that will lead to a permanent solution to the ongoing Tiv/Jukun and other forms of crisis in the state.” Read more here.
The Chief of Donga in Donga local government area of Taraba State, His Royal Highness, Stephen Danjuma Bayonga has been buried amid tight security at his palace in Donga town as residents lament the absence of Governor Darius Ishaku at the burial ceremony, Concise News reports. Chief Bayonga died on Wednesday July 31 at an Abuja hospital. The late 81-year-old first class traditional ruler and retired policeman was brought from Abuja to Taraba via Kashimbila Dame airstrip on an airplane and was conveyed to Donga amid heavy security. Donga local government area is among the three local government areas of southern part of Taraba State that are troubled by the Tiv/Jukun communal clashes in which over 100 people have been killed and properties worth millions of Naira destroyed in the past three months.
