Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola has confessed that Manchester United stand as a strong contender after signing Harry Maguire, from Leicester City.
Concise News learned that Guardiola disclosed that after signing the top-class player, United have an edge of winning the 2019/2020 Premier League title.
The City manager made this known on Sunday after Manchester City won Liverpool on penalties in the FA Community Shield at Wembley Stadium.
It was reported that Maguire was filmed arriving at Manchester United’s Carrington training camp to complete his medicals.
United sealed the £80million deal with Leicester City for Maguire on Friday, depending on the 26-year-old passing medicals.
Asked if the arrival of Maguire could earn Man United towards the 2019/2020 EPL title, Guardiola was quoted by Manchester Evening News, saying: “Yeah, Maguire is an excellent, top-class player. We were interested but we could not afford it and United can afford it.
“He made an incredible World Cup, strong in the air, good with the ball and drives with the ball so fast and young and has all the qualities to work for United. Congratulations to United for the signing.”
Guardiola added: “At the beginning, there are five or six teams who are contenders.
“I don’t care if people say we are going to win titles. It doesn’t matter about the recent years with United. They’re always contenders,” he concluded.
