The Presidency has said that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, because of a planned protest scheduled for Monday, August 5.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide on Social Media matters, Lauretta Onochie, on her Twitter page on Saturday said the DSS saved Sowore from harming himself during his protest.

Concise News had reported that Sowore, the convener of #RevolutionNow Protests, was picked up at his apartment in the early hours of Saturday.

The AAC presidential candidate posted a distress tweet at exactly 1:25 am today with an eyewitness claiming that his phone was forcefully taken from him.

His arrest may be linked to the #RevolutionNow – a series of planned protests against what Sowore describe as ‘bad governance in Nigeria’ – scheduled for August 5, 2019.

However, Onochie said that the DSS arrested Sowore by protecting him from ‘burning himself’.

Alongside a picture of a burning man, she wrote, “This is What DSS Saved Sowore from. (See image)

“With talks about setting himself ablaze, it’s in order for the security operatives, whose role it is to safeguard both lives and properties, to take him into custody to prevent him from harming himself and get him the help he needs.”
