A former Barcelona star Dani Alves has said he ignored overtures from Arsenal and other teams because he loves Sau Paulo, Concise News reports.

This online news medium understands that the 36-year-old defender on Thursday penned a three-year deal with the Brazillian side.

Alves captained Brazil to a win at the 2019 Copa America and will be at the club until 2022, December.

He was a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in France.

Arsenal were one of the teams touted to get the experienced defender to beef up their squad.

However, the mutiple Champions League winner picked Sao Paulo in his country home over other teams.

While speaking after he sealed the move, Alves expressed delight at returning home to play for Sao Paulo.

“I could’ve picked any other team to play for,” Alves noted. “But I chose to come back to Brazil, to my country, to my people. To the club I love.

“It’s unreal, but I’m here!”
