Benue: APC Closes Case At Election Tribunal With 59 Witnesses

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and its gubernatorial candidate, Emmanuel Jime have closed their case at the Benue Governorship Election Petition Tribunal after beckoning on 59 witnesses, Concise News reports. Jime, is challenging the return of Governor Samuel Ortom by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was also joined in the suit. The petitioner also tendered over 1100 electoral documents including forms EC8A, EC8B, EC8C, EC8D,  EC8E, voters registers and card reader reports, manual and guidelines for electoral officials, 2019 in 384 Polling Units across 11 local government areas in contention. Jime is challenging the results declared in Buruku, Gboko, Guma, Gwer East, Gwer West, Konshisha, Kwande, Logo, Ukum, Ushongo and Vandeikya. Jime while testifying in his own defence as PW17, told the tribunal to declare him winner of the election on grounds that he polled 2,224 votes more than Ortom. Read more here.

Benue Govt To Compensate Victims Of Makurdi Market Fire

The Benue State Government says it will compensate traders who lost valuables to the fire that gutted Makurdi Modern Market in June, Concise News reports. Merga Kachina, Commissioner for Trade and Investment, who disclosed this on Thursday in Makurdi, when the traders paid him a solidarity visit, said that arrangements for the exercise were in top gear. He described the inferno as “unfortunate and saddening”, and regretted the untold hardship on the victims. The official said that government was poised to transform the market into a modern trade centre so as to boost the Benue economy. Read more here.

Benue’s Ortom Storms Donald Trump’s Empire (See Photos)

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has arrived the United States of America (USA) for the Tiv Conventions, Concise News reports. Ortom was accompanied by the Benue State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Sir John Ngbede, and they were received on Thursday at the airport in Maryland, United States by Nigerian embassy officials ahead of today’s Mutual Union of Tiv in America (MUTA) Convention. The Convention which commenced yesterday will end on Sunday. It is organised by Benue indigenes living in America seek to chart a new course for greater unity among people of the state and its development in all sectors of the economy. Read more here.
