Liverpool will do battle with Premier League champions Manchester City in the FA Community Shield 2019, Sunday.
City won the league in May with 98 points, pipping Liverpool by a point.
Pep Guardiola’s side had gone on to win a domestic treble in an unprecedented campaign that saw them also reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Liverpool, on the other hand, emerged victors in the Champions League, beating Tottenham.
They have, however, been unimpressive in pre-season with manager Jurgen Klopp unbothered.
“I don’t want to find excuses before we play City,” the German said, “but we had a completely different preseason.”
He added that “Good results in the pre-season help to build confidence but that’s not the most important thing.
“The most important thing is that you build the physical skills for a long, long season because we have to, pretty much, prepare only for the games.”
For Guardiola, “The physical condition (of the squad) is not the best. We will try to play with players who played minutes in pre-season because they have rhythm and they know the situation.
“The guys who came back later maybe will have a few minutes. There are more chances of substitutions. I think it will be hot in London.”
