US President Donald Trump has been accused by Democratic House speaker Nancy Pelosi of “racist attacks” in his tweets about Democratic Rep Elijah Cummings, an African-American lawmaker.
Concise News understands that in a tweet the US president described Cummings’ majority-black district in Baltimore as a “rodent-infested mess.”
He said Cummings was a “bully” for standing against the treatment of migrants at the US-Mexico border.
Trump tweeted, “Rep, Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous. His district is considered the Worst in the USA…”
This news medium learned that Cummings, who is the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has instigated a series of investigations into the Trump administration’s policies, including its handling of migrants at detention centres.
According to Pelosi, Trump’s tweets were “racist attacks” on Cummings.
.@RepCummings is a champion in the Congress and the country for civil rights and economic justice, a beloved leader in Baltimore, and deeply valued colleague. We all reject racist attacks against him and support his steadfast leadership. #ElijahCummingsIsAPatriot https://t.co/2LG8AuQrHh
