The traditional ruler of Kona in Jalingo Local Government Area of Taraba State, Augustine Njanmeng has decried the occupation of 17 villages belonging to his community by suspected herdsmen, Concise News reports. Njanmeng told newsmen in his Palace in Jalingo on Wednesday that the herdsmen were grazing on the farms of displaced people. He also alleged that herdsmen were carrying sophisticated weapons to shoot anyone at sight. The monarch, therefore, called on the government and international community to intervene so as to return the displaced people to their ancestral homes. He added that his two farms sitting on 12 hectares of land had been destroyed by the herdsmen. Read more here.
Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested a syndicate who specializes in the purchase and supply of AK-47 rifles to hoodlums in Taraba state. Concise News reports that the state Commissioner of Police, Alkasim Sanusi, paraded the suspects with eight other offenders, including suspected kidnappers, at the headquarters of the police command in Jalingo, the state capital, when he officially launched the Special Anti kidnapping squad of the state.
