Mane won the Champions League with Liverpool, while Algeria captain Mahrez was part of a Manchester City side that completed the domestic treble in England. In fact, Mane won Liverpool a penalty in Madrid while Mahrez scored on the title-sealing day for City at Brighton.
The two are level on goals in the competition too. Both have found the back of the net three times – two behind Super Eagles’ Odion Ighalo.
Algeria won the group match 1-0 – which ensured their progress to the last 16 – thanks to a second-half goal by Youcef Belaili.
It is the sole goal Senegal have conceded in the tournament and the result saw them finish second in the group behind tonight’s opponents.
The big miss for Senegal is star defender Kalidou Koulibaly who will not be part of the team which will play Algeria tonight.
The Napoli centre-back is suspended after accumulating two yellow cards in three games.
Head to Head Record
Senegal and Algeria have faced each other 22 times and it is the Desert Foxes who have the superior record winning 13 and only losing four.
With four wins from their last five over Senegal, Djamel Belmadi’s side may feel the more confident of the two going into the final.
It is noteworthy that Senegal have never beaten Algeria at an AFCON in eight attempts.
