Transfer News: Ajax’s De Ligt Pens Five-Year Deal With Juventus

Ajax’s teenage captain Matthijs de Ligt officially penned a five-year deal worth of €75million with Italian giants Juventus after completing his medical.

Concise News reported that the young Dutch defender arrived at the Juventus health facility on Wednesday to complete his long-awaited transfer from Ajax after agreeing on personal terms earlier this month.

De Ligt’s value skyrocketed across two exceptional seasons, during which the 19-year-old became the club’s captain and one of the most highly-rated youngsters in world football.

Barcelona, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain had been heavily linked with the Netherlands star before the Bianconeri moved to make their seventh signing of the summer.

De Ligt Explains Juventus Choice

Matthijs de Ligt has explained why he opted for a €75 million move to Juventus over a switch to England or Spain.

According to the former Ajax captain, a fascination with Italian football contributed to his choice of the Serie A champions.

After several months of speculation, the 19-year-old has finally completed a big-money move to Turin.

Old Trafford and Camp Nou had been mooted as potential landing spots for the Netherlands international, with Manchester United and Barcelona reportedly keen, but the Allianz Stadium is his new home.

De Ligt will now get the opportunity to compete alongside the likes of Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci with the Bianconeri, while operating in the same side as Cristiano Ronaldo.

De Ligt told Ajax’s official website as he bids farewell to Amsterdam: “I have been fascinated by the Italian way of defending from an early age.

“Many of my idols from the past are also Italians. Such as [Paolo] Maldini, [Franco] Baresi, [Alessandro] Nesta, [Fabio] Cannavaro and [Gaetano] Scirea.

“When you talk about defenders, then you soon talk about those names.

“I actually fell in love with the Italian way of defending and I made a choice based on that.”
