The Manchester City man made this known on the back of scoring a brilliant free-kick at the death against Nigeria to send the Algerians into their first AFCON final since 1990.
Nigeria’s William Troost-Ekong had given Algeria the lead through an own goal before Odion Ighalo equalised from the penalty spot in the 70th minute.
But with the match heading for extra time, Mahrez fired into the top corner to send the Algerians through with a 2-1 win.
Speaking to cafonline after the match, Mahrez said, “It was a difficult game against a very good team…It was 1-1 and then we had this free-kick. I had the chance to score it and I did it. So we are very happy today.”
On the hardest match Algeria have played at the tournament, Mahrez said: “I think it was this game (against Nigeria). Every game is difficlut. But you know semi-final is more difficult.”
The Maghreb nation will face Senegal, who earlier beat Tunisia, in the final on Friday.
