A former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria for their 2-1 win over South Africa at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2019.

Concise News understands that William Troost-Ekong secured the winner for Nigeria in the 89th minute of the clash after Samuel Chukwueze’s first goal had been cancelled by the South Africans.

While reacting to the development, Atiku, a presidential candidate in the 2019 election, described it as a step away from the trophy.

In a tweet, he wrote: “Congratulations @NGSuperEagles. Great play. Now we are successfully one step away from playing for gold. We are solidly behind you all the way.”

Nigeria will play the winner of the tie between Ivory Coast and Algeria in the semi-final of the competition.
