The Super Eagles must communicate and work harder if they are to contend for the crown at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), according to ex-international Taribo West.

Concise News understands that the West Africans surrendered the leadership of Group B at the 2019 AFCON to Madagascar following a 2-0 loss, Sunday, to the debutants.

The loss which came as a surprise to many football fans and analysts alike, according to Taribo, should spur Gernot Rohr’s boys to do better in their subsequent games.

He called on the defenders, specifically, to work harder as the coach is doing his bit to make the team better.

“The boys need to work more, I know the coach has been doing his own part, but between themselves, there has to be talking between themselves to improve and do better,” the former AC Milan strongman told Brila FM.

“There has to also be also ready to work extra hard which is to ensure they play as a team and keep the back four solid.”

Nigeria await the second-placed side in Group F (Cameroon, Ghana, Benin and Guinea-Bissau) in the round of 16, Saturday.
