Gernot Rohr has said Super Eagles full backs Shehu Abdullahi and Jamilu Collins might not recover in time for Nigeria’s second Group B match with Guinea on Wednesday.

The three-time African champions returned to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Saturday, after missing out on the last two editions, with a hard-fought 1-0 win over debutants Burundi in Alexandria, Egypt.

But Abdullahi, who plays for Bursaspor, was substituted in the first half of the match after suffering a hamstring, with Paderbon of Germany left back Jamilu Collins joining him on the treatment table.

“We still miss the two players Jamilu Collins and Shehu Abdullahi. The two players had scan today. It will be difficult to have them play against Guinea on Wednesday,” quoted Rohr as saying.

The Eagles will hope to earn a berth in the next round with a win over Guinea after struggling to overcome Burundi – the lowest-ranked side at the tournament.

China-based poacher Odion Ighalo produced a brilliant finish just four minutes after coming on, following defender Ola Aina’s delicious back-heeled pass.

Nigeria, by virtue of their win over the Les Hirondelles, lead the group on three points.
