The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has bashed the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) over its call for a Fulani vigilante in the South-East.

Concise News had reported that the Miyetti Allah noted that the move will help in complementing the efforts of host communities and other security personnel in combating banditry in the region.

The herdsmen made the request on Thursday during the South East Security summit organized by South East Chambers of Commerce, Mines and Agriculture (SECCIMA) in collaboration with South East Governors Forum (SEGF) in Enugu.

According to the National President of MACBAN Mohammadu Kirowa, herdsmen are not synonymous with killings and crimes.

He noted that with the establishment of the Fulani Youth Vigilante group, they will be able to fish out perpetrators of crime in Igboland.

Kirowa noted that “the Fulani Youth Vigilant body will be working with the security, the neighbourhood watch or vigilante to ensure security in all communities, as it was done in Enugu state.

However, in a statement over the weekend, PANDEF cautioned the Federal Government not to accede to the demand of the group.

It urged the group to form such a body in the North-East to tame insurgency ravaging the region.

“PANDEF stands solidly with its contemporaries, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Afenifere in their similar response as PANDEF’s position on this yet another reckless display of rabid impunity covered by rabid obnoxious immunity,” the Niger Delta group added.
