Nigeria are in Group B of the competition with Burundi, Madagascar and Guinea and will play their first match on Saturday against Burundi.
Speaking ahead of the competition, Taribo who was at the 2000 edition admitted that the Super Eagles are a young side.
He noted that an understanding between the defence line and the goalkeeper is essential if Nigeria want to land the crown.
“A lot of talking must be done between the defence line and the goalkeeper, that’s one thing I believe should be done during the matches….that is my advice to them, there needs to be a lot of understanding,” the former Inter Milan star told Brila FM.
“Its a young team, and they are just also working together so you should not also forget that in football, it takes time to build a strong team.”
He added that “In as much as the coach is also working on them, and they are also playing together, in the fullness of time, they would be able to understand themselves and also bring about a solid communication that would make them to also excel properly, not just in the defence or goalkeeping area, but other aspects and areas of the team.”
