As the Super Falcons of Nigeria eagerly stand by to know their fate at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, Italy have won Group C on account of superior goal difference over both Australia and Brazil with all three finishing with six points each and qualifying for the Round of 16.

Concise News reports that the situation leaves Nigeria still in third place on the table of third-placed teams and very much in contention to progress beyond the group stage.

The African champions lost narrowly one nil to hosts France in Rennes on Monday. They finished third in Group A after picking up three points but with a deficit of two goals.

Group C on Tuesday 18th of June: Jamaica 1-4 Australia, Italy 0-1 Brazil.

Now, Nigeria will need Scotland to beat Argentina or at least hold the South Americans to a draw tomorrow.

Also, New Zealand must also hold Cameroon or if either side wins, it must not be by more than three goals.

Thailand, who have conceded 17 goals already, should not lose by over three goals to Chile.

Thankfully for Thomas Dennerby‘s ladies, Jamaica were unable to pull off a shock over Australia today.

All group matches will be concluded by Thursday, June 20.
