Bayern Munich star David Alaba has alleged that Nigerian coaches demanded a bribe for him to play for the Golden Eaglets in 2017.
Nigeria won the U-17 FIFA World for that year with Alaba saying the team’s coaches told him to pay them a bribe before he could feature for the side.
Alaba who now plays for Austria was still eligible to play for the West Africans then.
Alaba has a Nigerian father as well as a Filipino mother but his desire to represent his fatherland did not pull through due to the coaches’ demand.
The defender was quoted by All Soccer Nigeria as saying that he was in camp with the team ahead of the World Cup in South Korea that year and impressed.
He, however, said following the request of the coaches, his mother vowed never to hand them a penny so his son could make the team.
Speaking further, he described those coaches as jokers and insists that he won’t greet them if they approached him anytime.
He has now played 68 times for Austria, scoring 13 goals as he has won the Austrian Footballer of the Year six times.
