Hunters have arrested two ‘herdsmen’ suspected to have killed two persons in Ikole, Ekiti state.
Concise News reports that several attacks had been carried out on a farmstead at Iyemero more than five times by the suspected herders.
The head of local hunters in the town, Jimoh Eisikin, while speaking on how the herdsmen were arrested, said they were apprehended by his men on Friday around 1am.
Jimoh said the hunters working with the security agencies ambushed them at Eda and arrested them while on a mission to attack the village.
He said, “These herders had been raping our women and killing our people in the last six months.”
“During the onslaught leading to their arrest yesterday, two of our village hunters were macheted by the evil doers. But for the fact that we were prepared, we got them arrested after chasing them into the bush.”
“We brought them to Iyemero and tied them down at the village square with close security monitoring.”
Reacting to the killing, the Governor of the state, Kayode Fayemi, has ordered immediate construction of police station in the town.
Confirming the arrest, spokesman for the police in Ekiti, Caleb Ikechukwu, said those arrested had been detained at the police headquarters.
“Our men have begun investigation into their case and they will be charged to court upon conclusion of our investigation,” he said.
