The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Thursday, disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari will hold a valedictory session for the members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on May 22, 2019.
Disclosing this at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja, Mohammed said Buhari would chair the valedictory meeting.
The Minister, however, clarified that the valedictory session does not mean that the cabinet will be dissolved on the same day.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, the minister said it is the prerogative of President Muhammadu Buhari to dissolve the cabinet anytime he chose.
The statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Minister, Segun Adeyemi, clarified the minister’s earlier statement to State House correspondents after Thursday’s FEC meeting in Abuja.
”It is inaccurate to extrapolate from my statement – that the FEC valedictory session will hold on 22 May – to say that the President will dissolve the cabinet on the same day.
“They do not mean the same thing,” he said.
Also addressing newsmen after the FEC meeting on Thursday, the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), said the Federal Government had acquired N52 billion modern technology to monitor the nation’s borders and respond to emergencies at the borders.
He said the equipment would effectively cover 86 border posts and all 1,400 illegal routes used for smuggling and cross-border crimes across the country.
