A female corps member, Magdalene Yohanna reportedly collapsed and later died at the Wailo camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ganjuwa local government area of Bauchi State.
According to Vanguard Newspaper who reported the incident, Miss Magdalene had reportedly complained to NYSC officials about her protracted asthma illness and how she would not be fit to attend the ‘morning meditation’ but her complainants fell deaf ears.
Concise News understands the corps member was forced to attend the ‘meditation’ and collapsed a few minutes later.
Yohanna was immediately attended to by corps members doctors and nurses, but when attempts to resuscitate her were not yielding results, she rushed to ATBUTH to save her life.
One of the Doctors working at the Hospital confirmed that the relatives of the deceased have been informed of her death but added that he can not speak further because he is not authorised to speak to the press.
However, efforts to get the NYSC Public Relations Officer in the State, who was simply identified as Artu to immediately react to her death did not yield result as he kept saying for 2 weeks, “I am presently in Jos, I will release a statement when I return to Bauchi.”
After much pressure, he finally arranged for an interview with the State Coordinator at Wailo camp, immediately after the closing ceremony of batch ‘A’ Corps members.
It was gathered that Miss Magdalene Yohanna, an orphan who self-sponsored her education through the higher institution, was buried last Friday at her home town in Kaduna amidst tears and pain.
