A 10th-minute strike from Gabonese star Pierre Emery Aubamayeng gave the Gunners all three points and shot them into the top four on the table.
Speaking after the game, Emery lauded his team for defending well against a strong side.
“Yes, the three points is the most important today. We worked to be consistent in our structure, defending their long balls and set pieces,” the gaffer said.
“Here they are a very strong team on that. After with the ball I wanted to do better, to control better with one player more in the pitch.
“In some attacking moments for us we took chances to score the second goal but didn’t score.”
