Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk revealed how everyone at the club has been dreaming of ending the season with a trophy after the Reds humbles FC Porto at Anfield.
However, the Dutchman advised his team-mates to be careful by taking a game at a time in other to achieve the double success at the end of the season.
Asked if this could be Liverpool’s time to shine, Van Dijk responded: “Hopefully. That’s the only answer I can give you. Everyone is dreaming of it.
“The unlucky bit for us is some other team in the league has been amazing as well. For a neutral Premier League watcher it’s a great view, it’s nice to see two good teams challenging for the title.
“Hopefully it can all be something great at the end of the season. But we can already keep our heads up very high. We are still in the race so it’s possible. But I think it’s still a bit too far to think about it.
“We have to take it game by game. We know that any points that we drop or any slip-up can cost us. That’s the same for them, so the only thing we can do is just keep going. That starts tomorrow for us in the Champions League.”
Key to Liverpool’s hopes of victory on either front will the form of forward Mohamed Salah, who ended an eight-game goalless streak in notching a crucial goal against Southampton on Friday.
Van Dijk was never worried about his Egyptian colleague’s form, though, insisting his consistent work rate meant he was never far away from getting back on the scoresheet.
He added: “Fantastic. He is always lively, is always happy and wants to work hard and give everything for the team.
“That’s what Liverpool is all about. Everyone gives everything for the team and the club. He didn’t score for a couple of games but the pressure and the talk, it only came from the media.
“He was playing well, he was very important for us. He is still having a fantastic season.”
The Dutchman also revealed that hard work has been key to the impressive defensive statistics that have provided a foundation for Liverpool’s promising position.
He continued: “We have so much quality in the team, so much talent, the hard work that we put in every day in training, during the whole game the strikers keep pressing, keep defending well, midfield keep running and doing everything for the team and playing well when having the ball, working hard for the team and each other.
“You want to go that extra yard for your team-mates and that’s something that’s very important. It has been shown throughout the whole season.”
